Targeted Anti-Ageing Lip Rejuvenation

Ageing causes numerous changes to the lips such as lip thinning and loss of definition of the lip border. The philtrum (the groove above the upper lip) also becomes less defined and vertical lines often develop above the top lip (also known as smokers lines). There may also be downturning at the corners of the mouth which conveys a sad appearance to the face.  The anti-ageing lip rejuvenation treatment with dermal filler restores lips by addressing all the areas affected in a gentle and targeted way.  This treatment is not about giving you lip volume that you never had, it’s all about restoring what has been lost.  Each individual ages differently to the next and the key to a successful treatment is to tailor the treatment accordingly.  This ensures natural-looking results and a successful outcome.

How is this achieved?

A premium range filler called Volbella is used to subtly improve areas of volume loss and fine lines.  If the lip border has faded then this is restored by injecting just underneath the vermillion border to provide definition.

How long does the treatment take?

One hour is allocated to the procedure.  Time is spent in the appointment carefully cleaning and disinfecting the skin and for clinical photographs to be taken.

Does it hurt?

Lips can be one of the more sensitive areas of the face and this is why numbing cream is applied prior to the procedure.  The filler itself also contains a local anaesthetic making this a well tolerated procedure.

When will I see results?

Results are instant.  It is important to note that there will be swelling and in some cases this can take a week or two to settle completely.  Swelling is usually more apparent the following day and so you should bear this in mind when planning a treatment.

How long does the treatment last?

Results usually last 1 year if not longer.  Over time the filler gradually breaks down and the result will fade.  At this point the treatment can be repeated.

What are the side-effects?

Swelling is the most common which is usually short-lived but in some can take 1-2 weeks to settle.  There is also a risk of bruising. Arnica tablets or gel can speed up the healing time.  If you are prone to cold-sores there is a risk of an eruption and you will be advised to take some prophylactic anti-viral medication at your consultation.  There are also some very rare complications such as vascular occlusion and this is something which is discussed in detail at your consultation.

Will I need a check-up?

Aftercare is very important to Dr Sabba so a four-week follow-up is arranged for all patients in order to review the final result.  Once swelling has settled patients sometimes request more filler.  This can be undertaken at a follow-up appointment if needed as Dr Sabba will not inject more than 1ml of lip filler in the initial appointment.  Few people actually require more than 1ml and it is also safer to take this approach.

What is the cost?

Treatment starts from £550
