Platysmal Bands Treatment/ Nefertiti Lift

The platysma is a flat thin muscle which plays a role in the aesthetics of the neck. This muscle stretches the skin downwards and over time the downward pull leads to the formation of  vertical neck bands. The procedure to address this is known as the Nefertiti lift named after the Egyptian queen whose youthful smooth neck was greatly admired. Wrinkle-relaxing injections are used to treat the bands which is a highly effective, safe, and well tolerated treatment. For the most effective results the ideal candidate for this procedure is someone in their 40’s or 50’s who has early development of jowls and neck bands. A consultation is required before any treatment can be carried out to assess suitability.

How is this achieved?

Injections are placed along the lower jaw and along the neck bands. They work by reducing the downward pull of the platysmal muscle which leads to a lifting effect and a smoother, more contoured and defined neck and jaw.

How long does Nefertiti lift take?

45 minutes is allocated to this procedure. Although the procedure does not take this long, time is spent in the appointment carefully cleaning and disinfecting the skin, for clinical photographs to be taken and to carefully mark the skin.

Does the Nefertiti lift hurt?

It is not a painful procedure and numbing cream is not generally used.  The treatment is gently administered through very fine needles and the vast majority of patients tolerate it very well.

When will I see results from Nefertiti lift?

In general most patients start to see results by Day 5 and it takes two weeks for the final results to appear. It is therefore important to plan your treatment in advance if you are attending a special event taking into account the two week follow-up in case any adjustments are needed.

How long does the Nefertiti lift last?

This is variable however the average duration is three to four months. The treatment can then be repeated to maintain jawline and neck contours.

What are the side-effects?

The Nefertiti lift carries few side-effects. There is some short-lived redness and also a risk of bruising although this is minimal.

Do I need a check-up?

A follow-up appointment is always organised for patients two to three weeks after the wrinkle-relaxation procedure.  This is especially important for new patients where some adjustment may be needed in order to achieve the best result possible.  Some patients however may not feel the need to return so this is discussed on a case by case basis.

Does Nefertiti lift work for horizontal neck lines?

Although the Nefertiti lift does smooth the neck it does not directly treat horizontal neck bands. Other treatment modalities are generally recommended that improve skin quality such as targeting skincare, injectable moisturisers and/or dermal fillers. Time is spent in the initial consultation understanding what you want to achieve so that a treatment plan is formulated to address your specific goals.
