Jawline Reshaping

As the ageing process advances, loss of volume in the lower face causes the tissues to drop resulting in jowl formation. There are also changes in the mid-face and the facial skeleton itself begins to shrink in. All these changes in combination with changes in skin texture and increasing skin laxity due to collagen loss all contribute to a lack of jawline definition. When severe the jawline can begin to blend in with the neck. Having a well-defined jawline is extremely flattering in both men and women and this can be achieved non-surgically. This procedure can also be combined with cheek enhancement procedure and chin augmentation in order to provide additional definition to the side facial profile.

The best time to undergo this procedure is when changes are first noted.  This also often means less dermal filler is required and it is more likely to achieve full correction.

How is this achieved?

Dermal filler is injected along the lower face in areas where volume has been lost. This causes a lifting effect and a restoration of a smoother, more well-defined jawline.

The hyaluronic acid in the filler has the effect of attracting and retaining water thereby instantly improving the skin’s appearance and restoring its structure.

A combination of needle and cannula technique is used and most people require on average 2-4 syringes and sometimes more depending on the degree of sagging.

How long does the treatment take?

This depends on the amount of dermal filler that is to be injected but is usually one hour. Time is spent in the appointment carefully cleaning and disinfecting the skin, for clinical photographs to be taken and to mark the skin.

Does it hurt?

Numbing cream is applied for 15 minutes prior to the procedure and the filler itself also contains a local anaesthetic making this a very well tolerated treatment.

When will I see results?

Results are instant and there is further improvement over a four-week period as the dermal filler integrates into the jawline area.  It is important to note that there can be some mild swelling and this can take a few days to settle completely.

How long does the treatment last?

Results usually last 1-2 years in the majority of patients making this a very long-lasting procedure.  Over time the filler gradually breaks down and the result will fade.  At this point the treatment can be repeated.

What are the side-effects?

These are minimal. Swelling is the most common which is usually short-lived. There is also a risk of bruising. Arnica tablets or gel can speed up the healing time.  When working with dermal fillers there are also some very rare complications such as vascular occlusion and this is something which is discussed in detail at your consultation.

Will I need a check-up?

Aftercare is very important to Dr Sabba so a four-week follow-up is arranged for all patients in order to review the result. If treatment is to be carried out in stages then this is arranged at a 4-weekly interval.

What is the cost?

Treatment with dermal filler starts from £450
