Chin Augmentation

The chin is important in providing structure to the face and treatment with dermal filler provides instant and natural results. A weak or under-projected chin is when the chin is not projected forward enough in relation to other parts of the face such as the lips. It can be reshaped and this also provides additional benefits by improving the jawline and reducing the shadow from any down turning at the corners of the mouth.  There are important differences to note between male and female chins and this should also be taken into consideration so that the most aesthetically pleasing result is achieved. Chin filler can also be used to lengthen the chin to create a more balanced profile. The crease which develops over time can also be directly treated. As always a detailed consultation along with a Full Face Analysis is carried out before any treatment is undertaken.

How is this achieved?

Dermal filler is placed in carefully selected sites in the chin to provide instant volume and a smoothing effect. The site of placement depends on the aims of treatment. To project a weak chin forward the injections are placed mainly towards the front.  To lengthen the chin, the injections are placed more inferiorly. Repeated assessment during the procedure helps guide the whole process.

How long does chin filler take?

This depends on the amount of dermal filler that is to be injected but is usually one hour. Time is spent in the appointment carefully cleaning and disinfecting the skin, for clinical photographs to be taken and to mark the skin.

Does chin filler hurt?

Numbing cream is applied for 15 minutes prior to the procedure and the filler itself also contains a local anaesthetic making this a well-tolerated treatment.  There can sometimes be a tight or uncomfortable sensation once the procedure has been carried out but this usually settles by itself.

When will I see results from my chin filler?

Results are instant and there is further improvement over a four-week period as the dermal filler integrates into the chin.  It is important to note that there can be some mild swelling and this can take a few days to settle completely.

How long does chin filler last?

Results usually last 1-2 years in the majority of patients making this a very long-lasting procedure.  Over time the filler gradually breaks down and the result will fade.  At this point the treatment can be repeated.

What are the side-effects with chin filler?

These are usually mild. Swelling can occur and as with all dermal fillers there is a risk of bruising. Arnica tablets or gel can speed up the healing time.  When working with dermal fillers there are also some very rare complications such as vascular occlusion and this is something which is discussed in detail at your consultation.

Will I need a check-up?

Aftercare is very important to Dr Sabba so a four-week follow-up is arranged for all patients in order to review the result. If treatment is to be carried out in stages then another appointment is arranged at a 4-weekly interval.

Can chin filler help with a double chin?

This depends. If the degree of sagging underneath the chin is mild and the person has an under-projected chin then some improvement can be seen. If however there is significant sagging and no weakness in the jaw or chin then it is unlikely to help.

What is the cost?

Treatment with dermal filler starts from £450
